ABOUT
Wands for Wildlife inspires people to help wildlife and the environment through re-purposing discarded mascara wands for use in wildlife care, art and education. The small, volunteer-run organization engages people in ways to support wildlife caregivers and encourages greater mindfulness of the impact from human activities, including the use of plastics, on the environment. While we do not work directly with the animals, our programs provide support to wildlife caregivers caring for the injured and orphaned wild animals.

supporting local
We have received an enormous amount of wands! As a small, volunteer-run nonprofit, the need to recycle/repurpose wands is far beyond our ability to support.
Our goal is to encourage those wanting to donate wands to Help Locally. Connect with wildlife caregivers and offer them wands with the Caregiver Guide explaining how to put them to use. Ask what other supplies they need, then host a drive to collect them in your community.
If there is no need for the wands locally, check out the nonprofit Pact Collective to recycle wands along with other hard to recycle beauty packaging.
With an already large inventory of wands, and as financial donations are received, we are sending them along with life-saving supplies to home-based wildlife rehabilitators across the country. Help feed and care for the wild ones - Donate Now!

The Wand team
This is all made possible by a small, brave team of volunteers who took on starting a new organization as a pandemic took over the world in 2020. Brought together because of a deep love for wildlife and our planet, the Wands for Wildlife team is dedicated to making a difference. Find out how to become part of the Wand Team on the Volunteer page.
history
On March 13, 2017, the first package of wands was received after a Facebook post went viral. Since then, wands have been sent in from around the world.
Wands for Wildlife began as a program at Appalachian Wildlife Refuge and grew into an organization with a global reach. It started with a social media post asking for used mascara wands to help in wildlife rehabilitation. The first wands were received within days of the post and packages have continued to arrive since. |

At the beginning of 2020, plans began to turn the Wands for Wildlife program into a nonprofit. As the global pandemic spread, a small team of dedicated volunteers bravely pushed ahead and celebrated the establishment of the organization on June 29, 2020.
